Adult Women's Literacy Program

This was started when the Rambles saw the need to make the students and parents aware of the illiteracy and poverty in their own villages surrounding the school. The students needed to learn not just to receive but to give to the community where there is a need. Hence this project is being supported and run by the students of AGCS and the parents. There is a survey carried out first by the students and a centre is then set up with twenty ladies ranging from ages 15-56. A lady from the village who has been to school for a few years is chosen and she teaches these ladies everyday for two hours and is paid Rs. 300.00 per month. This money is raised by the students of AGCS through Fancy Fetes, sales etc. Till now more than 300 women have learned how to read and write instead of using their thumb impressions.
